5259 Addressable RS232 to RS485 Converter

Your computer or PLC serial port can now individually address multiple RS232 devices up to 1.8km away. The addressable RS232 to RS422 converter allows this. Each device can be individually selected and the computer or PLC talks to that device. For example, you want your computer to talk to 3 printers in different parts of the factory.  Wire up the 5259 converters as in the picture. The 5259 connected to printer 1 has its address set to address 1. Similarly for the 5259 connected to printers 2 and 3.   To select a printer a command is sent. This can be either the STX (02HEX) control character, or HeAdEr. The addressable RS232 to Half Duplex RS485 converter allows this. Each device can be individually selected and the computer or PLC talks to that device. MOTION DESIGN

MOTION DESIGN – FRANK CALIS We here at Motion Design have been working with Technman since the late ’80s and have recently used Technman’s 5000 series I/O equipment in our milk sampling system. This system, the ILAS milk sample sorting robot sorts, mixes and analyzes milk samples at high speed. We used Technman 5000 modules for all the digital I/O systems in our ILAS robot. Technman’s 5000 series modules have a very low profile which made it easy to mount them tidily and discreetly on our robots, and the modules proved to be highly immune to electrical interference. POPE ENGINEERING

POPE ENGINEERING – BILL POPE, MANAGING DIRECTOR Specialising in the custom design of industrial processing solutions For the Te Puke blending plant I chose to use Control-It cards for five reasons 1. Flexibility 2. Cost 3. Robustness 4. Expandability 5. Reliability The chosen system was a Soft PLC (InControl) supplied from InTouch with an InTouch SCADA. Because we only had to buy one card at a time to expand I/O, (with no back plane, remote I/O or comms card) this made moving, expanding or changing the plant very easy. Because we had true distributed control we were able to reduce the cost of automation. With the cards close to the areas that they were controlling we were able to reduce the number of connectors, terminal blocks and cable duct sizes. We found the Control-It cards survived in a harsh environment extremely well and were tolerant of electrical noise(which in the beginning of the project was an unfortunate fact of life). The cards and control system controlled a 25kg bag packer, bulk bin packer, bulk bag packer, milling, blending and powder transport. There were 250 I/O points and two serial controls.
